[SGI-ToMyFriends-Wagatomo] 30th July, 2014 To My Friends & Daily Gosho plus 31st July, 2014 Daily Enc.

A translation of President Ikeda's "To My Friends"
published in the Seikyo Shimbun and more.

Wednesday, July 30th, 2014
-- TO MY FRIENDS --
The Gosho encourages us to have faith like flowing water,
which means "to believe continuously without ever regressing."
Continuity is the source of true strength.
With faith that is pure like the water of a clear stream
let's spend each day living with sincerity,
making even greater strides forwards!

* Gosho, The Two Kinds of Faith - WND1, pg. 899, "Today there are
people who have faith in the Lotus Sutra. The belief of some is like
fire while that of others is like water. When the former listen to the
teachings, their passion flares up like fire, but as time goes on,
they tend to discard their faith. To have faith like water means to
believe continuously without ever regressing."

--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"Whatever trouble occurs, regard it as no more than a dream, and think
only of the Lotus Sutra."

page 502)  Selection Source: Kyo no Hosshin, Seikyo Shinbun, July

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"There are times when, no matter how hard you try, things don't work out the way you wish. So, instead of dwelling on past regrets, set your sights on your next challenge. That's what makes a true victor. Such people win in the end.

"Overcoming sadness and hardship makes us stronger. We can develop greater character. Don't let setbacks keep you down forever. Hold your head up high and take a positive, courageous step forwards!"

SGI Newsletter  No. 9056, Dialogue for the Future: Traveling the Path of Victory Together with You. [23] Nothing Is Greater Than the Path of Mentor and Disciple—Part 2 [of 2], translation released 29th July, 2014, from the 1st March, 2014, issue of the Mirai [Future] Journal

"In the realm of faith, all the struggles and hardships undertaken for the sake of the Law and kosen-rufu become great benefit and good fortune. In fact, those who have suffered the most will become the happiest. This is the essence of Nichiren Buddhism."

"Our karma is the noble mission that we chose to take on. Buddhist principles such as 'earthly desires lead to enlightenment,' 'the sufferings of birth and death lead to nirvana,' and 'changing poison into medicine' teach us that if we have a strong core of faith in our lives, we can dramatically turn around all misfortune that may assail us."

[SGI-ToMyFriends-Wagatomo] 28th July - 3rd Aug. 2014 To My Friends and Daily Gosho plus July 29th, 2014 Daily Enc.

A translation of President Ikeda's "Words of the Week"
published in the Seikyo Shimbun and more.

July 28th-August 3rd, 2014
-- WORDS OF THE WEEK --
Constantly doing a vibrant gongyo is
the source of good health and a fulfilling life.
By using our wisdom to maintain
a good rhythm in our daily lives,
let's create value each and every day,
cheerfully, happily and in good health!

Monday, July 28th, 2014
--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"Single-mindedly chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo and urge others to do the same; that will remain as the only memory of your present life in this human world."

(Questions and Answers about Embracing the Lotus Sutra - The Writings of
Nichiren Daishonin, Volume I, page 64) Selection Source: "Kyo no Hosshin",
Seikyo Shimbun, July 28th, 2014

Tuesday, July 29th, 2014
---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"However great the hardships and suffering they may experience, those who are striving for kosen-rufu have already, at a most fundamental level, overcome them because the sun of the boundless life state of Bodhisattva and Buddhahood shines in their hearts. Undaunted by the dark nights of karmic suffering, they bring their lives to shine brightly, illuminating the darkness and ushering in a dawn of revitalisation.

"...While none of us can escape the four sufferings of birth, aging, sickness, and death, Buddhism teaches a means to resolve life's fundamental problems through awakening us to the eternal and unchanging nature of life.

"In the course of life there may be painful times and sad times, and even times when we lose hope. But by chanting daimoku before the Gohonzon, we can bring forth strength and limitless life force. And as we continue to chant and share Nichiren Buddhism with others, we naturally come to transform our karma and accumulate great good fortune in our lives. Chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo ourselves and teaching others to do the same is the driving force for persevering through the harsh realities of society."

"Nothing heartens me more than seeing the tremendous efforts being made by my beloved youth division members!

"To joyfully emerge to take action at a crucial time, to readily go to the most challenging places, undeterred by any hardships―this is the hallmark of honourable young Bodhisattvas of the Earth who have directly inherited the spirit of Nichiren Daishonin.

-- TO MY FRIENDS --
Let's treasure the conversations we have with our children.
A harmonious family is the very foundation
of the transmission of the spirit of our practice
from one generation to another.
Let's create wonderful memories to adorn
the 100th anniversary of the founding of Soka*!

* In 2030, we will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the foundation
of Soka Gakkai.

--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"This I will state. Let the gods forsake me. Let all persecutions
assail me. Still I will give my life for the sake of the Law."

Selection Source: "Kyo no Hosshin", Seikyo Shinbun, July 24th, 2014

Friday, July 25th, 2014
---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"Nichiren Buddhism is a teaching of the highest good that enables humanity and all life in the universe to shine. When we base ourselves on this ultimate Law, we can lead lives of unsurpassed value. When we have faith in and chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, our lives come to be in rhythm with the universe.

"Talking about the essence of sharing Nichiren Buddhism with others, second Soka Gakkai president Josei Toda said: 'You are living your lives as entities of Nam-myoho-renge-kyo. . . . Sharing the correct teaching with others in the Latter Day of the Law means having the firm conviction, "My life is none other than Nam-myoho-renge-kyo!"'

"Nam-myoho-renge-kyo contains everything within it—wisdom, courage, strength, and compassion.
Only faith in the Mystic Law enables us to overcome the sufferings of birth, aging, sickness, and death. Let's boldly embark on a life of total victory imbued with the four noble virtues of eternity, happiness, true self, and purity."

[SGI-ToMyFriends-Wagatomo] 22nd July, 2014 To My Friends & Daily Gosho plus 25th July, 2014 Daily Enc.

-- TO MY FRIENDS --
A new phase of development in our lives
begins from a fresh new determination!
Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism is the Buddhism of "true cause!"*
Everything starts from now, this moment onwards!
Let's lead a life of creating value!

*Regarding the spirit of true cause, SGI President Ikeda said in a dialogue with young people, "The past is the past and the future is the future. You should keep moving forwards with a steady eye on the future, telling yourself, 'I'll start from today!' 'I'll start afresh from now, from this moment!' This is the essence of Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism of True Cause, the spirit of starting from the
present moment. This is the heart of our daimoku" (World
Tribune,November 1st, 1996, p.11).

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2014
--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"The greatest evil among evils produces consequences that not only affect the perpetrators personally but extend to their sons, their grandsons, and so on down to the seventh generation. And the same is true of the greatest good among good."
Selection source: "Teachings of Buddhism",  Seikyo Shimbun, July 12th, 2014

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2014
---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"Happiness isn't given to us; we must attain it ourselves. We ourselves hold the key to the door of happiness.

"In The Record of the Orally Transmitted Teachings, Nichiren Daishonin states: 'Our head corresponds to myo, our throat to ho, our chest to ren, our stomach to ge, and our legs to kyo. Hence this five-foot body of ours constitutes the five characters of Myoho-renge-kyo' (OTT, 28). Through faith in the Mystic Law, we can bring forth the life state of Buddhahood within us. Our lives themselves are endowed with a strength and brilliance that even the surging tempests of adversity cannot diminish. Our Buddhist practice is the fundamental means for changing our karma. It is the foundation for winning in life."

SGI Newsletter No. 9044, Opening a New Era of Kosen-rufu Together, (25) Attaining Our Own Happiness, from 5th July, 2014, issue of the Seikyo Shimbun, translation released 17th, July, 2014
