In an article he contributed to the Seikyo Shinbun, he commented: 'The source of the Soka Gakkai's strength is the fact that it holds discussion meetings, which value the very act of people meeting together, as a natural core activity.' He also recognised the great value of home visits and personal encouragement: 'Though the Soka Gakkai encourages as many members as possible to participate in its activities, I don't believe it would have grown to the extent it has if it were not an inclusive organisation that cares equally for those who are unable to attend.'"

"The Daishonin was a great person defined by selflessness.

"He risked his life by vehemently remonstrating with the authorities, not for his own sake but for the security and happiness of the people and to build a peaceful society. At the same time, as his letters to Nanjo Tokimitsu show, he embraced each of his disciples with the utmost warmth and concern.

"Both of these actions are expressions of compassion. They embody the spirit of the Lotus Sutra in action and the struggle to establish the correct teaching for the peace of the land. In addition, in his efforts to protect the people, the Daishonin repudiated erroneous teachings that went against the true spirit of Buddhism. And he engaged in a great struggle of words, sharply criticizing the nation's leaders who ignored the people's suffering. He persisted tirelessly in this great cause based on the Buddhist teachings."

Now Nichiren and his followers, who chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, are persons who "lodge in the same place as the Thus Come One." Therefore, Fu Ta-shih says in his commentary, "Morning after morning we rise up with the Buddha, evening after evening we lie down with the Buddha. Moment by moment we attain the way, moment by moment we reveal our true identity."
