--- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ---

"When someone has given their all over an extended period, it’s no surprise that fatigue may build up or that they might fall ill. After all, Buddhism teaches that birth, aging, sickness and death are inescapable aspects of life.

“That’s why we should never think that getting sick is a result of weak faith; nor should we feel ashamed about it—even as a leader. And we should never let anyone else feel that way, either.

“Rather, we should warmly embrace and encourage them, saying: ‘You’ve given so much and worked so hard, please take this time to rest and recover. Once you’re feeling better, let’s strive together again.’

“Of course, it goes without saying that we each should do our best to maintain good health. We should aim to lead a well-regulated lifestyle, pay attention to our diet and do what we can to prevent illness. But of course, some illnesses stem from genetic or other unavoidable causes.

“What’s important is to not let illness defeat us. For example, an illness may cause someone to lose their mobility. But that certainly doesn’t mean they’re unhappy. I know many members who though unable to walk are truly happy and lead vibrant, fulfilling lives."
