-- TO MY FRIENDS --
In this traditional month of February,
I entrust all of our youth with the leading role of
achieving the greatest victories of the century.
Having your spirits directly connected to the mentor's
commitment to kosen-rufu,
be courageous young lions of the SGI,
and achieve stunning victories that will change
history!

*"Shin'ichi had grown deeply aware of this profound bond with his mentor
when he took on the first real battle that Toda had ever directly entrusted
to him, in February1952."

"'To show our gratitude, let's celebrate the month of President Toda's birth
and answer his expectations by thoroughly challenging ourselves and
achieving a truly magnificent victory in our activities.'"

"As the members of Kamata Chapter listened to Shin'ichi's words at the
kick-off meeting, they became aware of his devotion and commitment to Josei
Toda; they learned the true spirit of a disciple. Shin'ichi had narrowed the
gap between them and Toda. They now felt much closer to their mentor in
spirit."

"When disciples have a seeking spirit towards their mentor and determine to
fight alongside him, then the mentor's life--the mentor's commitment to
kosen-rufu--pulses and flows through the disciples' veins.

"Filled with a deep sense of pride and the spirit to challenge, the Kamata
Chapter members joyously dedicated
themselves to their activities. In February, they gained an unprecedented
201 new member-households."

"This stunning achievement by Kamata Chapter became an inspiration for the
rest of the country, opening the way for the accomplishment of Toda's goal
of 750 thousand households. This struggle waged by Shin'ichi in Kamata
Chapter is also the origin of the 'February tradition' signifying a great
leap forward in propagation of the Daishonin's Buddhism."

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"Recently, researchers of Harvard Medical School and the University of
California, San Diego, published findings indicating that happiness is
contagious. Their conclusions are based on a study of about 5,000
individuals over a 20-year period. According to their research, when one
person feels happy, that happiness spreads like a ripple from friend to
friend. Indeed, if one's next-door neighbour is happy, the likelihood that
one will feel happy as well increases 34 percent. This research supports the
idea that a zone of happiness can be spread through a social network.

"The world economy is in the direst of straits right now, and many are
concerned about the impact that it is having on people's morale and
spiritual welfare. It is precisely at this time that the example of our wise
and committed SGI members standing up bravely in their communities and
societies can serve as an incredible source of hope and inspiration for many
others. In particular, nothing is more noble than the united efforts of our
women's and young women's division members who are always earnestly chanting
for the cause of good and warmly encouraging everyone. As Mr. Toda asserted:
'The vibrant example of a woman who upholds the Mystic Law is more powerful
than a hundred sermons or books.'"
