-- TO MY FRIENDS --
The Daishonin states:
"Strengthen your faith day by day and month after month."*
With these lines from the Gosho etched deeply within our hearts,
let us make strong and concrete prayers to achieve the great desire of kosen-rufu,
and exerting ourselves bravely and vigorously
let us take fresh new steps forwards on our journey!

"(Above all, I remember how, in the eighth year of the Bun'ei era (1271), when I incurred the wrath of the authorities and was about to be beheaded at Tatsunokuchi in the province of Sagami, you held on to the reins of my horse, accompanying me barefoot and shedding tears of grief. You were even prepared to give your life had I in fact been executed.) In what lifetime could I possibly forget it?"

"We can manifest the brilliance of the world of Buddhahood anywhere. This is the teaching of Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism. Our first two presidents, Tsunesaburo Makiguchi and Josei Toda, united by the bonds of mentor and disciple, demonstrated this with their own lives. In a prison cell that he described as 'cold to the extreme,' Mr. Makiguchi wrote: 'Depending on one's frame of mind, even hell can be enjoyable.' And Mr. Toda, who accompanied him to prison, remarked: 'Even if I should fall into hell, it wouldn't matter to me in the least. I would simply share the correct teaching with the inhabitants there and turn it into the Land of Tranquil Light.' This spirit is the very quintessence of faith in the Daishonin's Buddhism."
