"Nichiren Daishonin wrote to Nanjo Tokimitsu, the eminent lay disciple who donated the land for the head temple: 'Only one who has met with great persecution can be said to have mastered the Lotus Sutra' (WND – 1, 799). As long as we live, we are determined to uphold the unshakable conviction expressed here by the Daishonin, never fearing any persecution in the course of propagating the correct teaching; or rather, regarding great persecution as our highest honour."
