"In his treatise 'On Establishing the Correct Teaching for the Peace of the Land,' Nichiren Daishonin uses the expression 'a friend in the orchid room' (WND-1, 23). When you are in a room filled with fragrant orchids, you become imbued with their fragrance. In the same way, good friends who imperceptibly exert a positive influence on us through their presence or example are 'friends in the orchid room.' Expanding these kinds of friendships is the way to establish a society of peace and justice."
