---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"The citadel of Soka,
adorned with
flowers, splendour, and victory.

"'Whether it is in literature or in music, familiarise yourselves with first-rate things'--this was Mr. Toda's message to us for the future.

"First Soka Gakkai president, Tsunesaburo Makiguchi, stressed the importance of the value of beauty, which he regarded to be directly linked to happiness. He continued to cherish and appreciate the arts and culture even during the war, when barbarism was rampant.

"As champions of Soka, please strive with pride and confidence to create a more beautiful world, no matter how much ugliness may fill society in the forms of hatred, envy, corruption, betrayal, and other evils.

"I hope you will broaden your circle of friendship, always act with the utmost sincerity and integrity, and live strongly, bringing the jewel of your own life to shine to its fullest brilliance. There is no way of life more beautiful than this.

"Culture represents the cultivation of the rich soil of the human spirit and the flowering of human wisdom."

SGI Newsletter No. 7972, OUR BRILLIANT PATH TO VICTORY, The Radiance of Soka Culture, translated April 2nd, 2010
