--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"A blue fly, if it clings to the tail of a thoroughbred horse, can travel ten thousand miles, and the green ivy that twines around the tall pine can grow to a thousand feet."

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"The London Summer Olympics, a global festival of peace, will soon begin.

"It goes without saying that the key to success in sports, in youth, and in all aspects of life, is momentum. Success and vibrant growth are found where there is momentum, be it in the life of an individual or in an organisation. Therefore, let us advance joyfully and spiritedly, with the 'momentum of a charging lion' and the 'momentum of splitting bamboo.'

"The Lotus Sutra speaks of a lion's powerful momentum, referring to 'the power that has the lion's ferocity' (cf. LSOC15, 258). When we chant daimoku, which is like the roar of a lion, our lives are filled with this overflowing life force; we can face any problem or challenge with the momentum of a charging lion and triumph over them, transforming suffering into joy.

"In the East, unstoppable momentum has also long been likened to the process of splitting a bamboo stalk. How can we create such unstoppable momentum? The Daishonin writes: 'The situation is like the joints in a piece of bamboo: if one joint is ruptured, then all the joints will split' (WND-1, 512). It is important, therefore, that we chant strongly and specifically about each problem or challenge facing us, take resolute action, and emerge victorious. It doesn't matter if the challenge is small or seemingly ordinary. The key is to pledge to complete it and then carry out that pledge, with sincerity and persistence, until we've accomplished what we set out to do. That is like splitting the first joint in a bamboo stalk; it creates tremendous momentum for every subsequent challenge. It becomes the momentum for human revolution and the momentum for eternal victory in both youth and life."

SGI Newsletter No. 8562, 59th Soka Gakkai Headquarters Leaders Meeting, Advancing with Unstoppable Momentum, from the 16th July, 2012, issue of the Seikyo Shimbun, translated 20th July 2012
