"Dr. Ela Gandhi, a renowned South African human rights activist and women's leader, who is also the granddaughter of Mahatma Gandhi, has only one memory of spending time with her grandfather, when she was seven years old. Nevertheless, she engraved the Mahatma's spirit of nonviolence in her life and continues to work as a tireless champion of human rights.

"Sowing seeds in the fertile earth of young people's lives eventually brings forth abundant fruit. Ultimately, all of our hard work and efforts for kosen-rufu are for the sake of our successors and for the purpose of opening the way to the eternal future.

"Without people who will inherit our legacy and carry on our movement—that is, without successors—there is no future.

"Like a mighty flowing river, kosen-rufu is the transmission of the humanistic spirit of Nichiren Buddhism to the next generation, to the future. It is a relay in which the baton of our noble cause is handed forwards.

"That is why the growth of the future division, in particular, will lead to the growth of kosen-rufu, and why the victory of the future division will lead to the victory of mentor and disciple.

"The future division members are the treasures of the SGI, of their families, of their communities, of society, and of all humankind. Let us wholeheartedly support, encourage, and foster them."
