"In teaching me about faith, Mr. Toda adopted an approach that was simultaneously scholarly, universal, and open to society. His method of instruction was absolutely brilliant. Once he said to me: 'The Daishonin's Buddhism is the ultimate Law of the universe. It is the treasure storehouse of wisdom. It is the correct path of the wise.' Faith in the Mystic Law enables one to build a character of the highest integrity. 'It is the sharp sword of wisdom,' he said. In other words, faith is a mighty sword more powerful than any political or academic authority. Mr. Toda continued: 'The Daishonin's Buddhism is a towering, eternal philosophy. It is the great way to peace. It is the art of attaining supreme happiness. It is the teaching that sets us on the course to victory.' Everything we need to win in life is found in our practice of Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism. I fondly recall my mentor sharing these guidelines with me."
