"Right now, the Soka Gakkai's new headquarters is under construction. Work started the year before last, in 2011, and a fine new building will be completed in November this year. The fact is that the greatest amount of time was spent on the building's foundation.

"Towering Mount Fuji stands so regal and imperturbable because of its enormous base. A cherry tree blooms splendidly because its roots reach deep into the earth. The same is true of people. Outstanding individuals always have a strong foundation. That's why I want all of you to have solid foundations and win in your daily lives.

"Paying attention to getting the basics right is the key to leading a victorious life and developing admirable character. This could include such mundane things as greeting people when you see them, or taking good care of your health, or being organised in the morning....

"I hope you will also challenge yourselves to do gongyo and chant daimoku. Chanting daimoku nourishes our spirit and is the way to polish and forge our lives. The time we spend chanting and doing gongyo is a precious time when we can align our lives with the rhythm of the universe."
