"An eternal guideline for the Soka Gakkai that Mr. Toda left us is 'Faith for overcoming obstacles.' Maintaining unflinching courage in the face of momentous challenges and harsh onslaughts of obstacles is the essence of faith in Nichiren Buddhism. That is why Mr. Toda made rigorous training in the 'two ways of practice and study' (WND-1, 386) the foundation of the Soka Gakkai spirit, likening it to the forging of a master swordsman."
