"Let us discuss the question at length."*
Everything starts with dialogue.
Let's sincerely listen to what others have to say
and share what we have to say with confidence and hope.

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"In my lecture at Harvard University on the subject of life and death (delivered in September 1993), I cited a passage from The Record of the Orally Transmitted Teachings [that reads: 'We use the aspects of birth, ageing, sickness, and death to adorn the towers that are our bodies' (OTT, 90)]. In this same work, the Daishonin states: 'When, while in these four states of birth, ageing, sickness, and death, we chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, we cause them [the treasure towers that are our bodies] to waft forth the fragrance of the four virtues [of eternity, joy, true self, and purity]' (OTT, 90).

"Soka Gakkai founding president Tsunesaburo Makiguchi aptly and accessibly summed up the essence of these four virtues as a state of life in which one is 'always joyful, with a self that is pure.'

"No one can avoid the four sufferings of birth, ageing, sickness, and death. But as people who chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo for the happiness of ourselves and others, we can definitely change all poison into medicine. We can adorn the treasure towers of our lives with a state of life in which we are 'always joyful, with a self that is pure,' and help others do the same."

SGI Newsletter No. 9466, 20th Soka Gakkai Headquarters Leaders Meeting Message, Transforming Despair into Hope, Karma into Mission, from 10th Oct., 2016, issue of the Seikyo Shimbun, translation released 13th Oct., 2016
