"Nichiren Daishonin likened the compassion of the Buddha to a mother bird warming and hatching her eggs and then teaching her chicks to fly.

"In a famous passage, he says that, just as a baby bird in an egg develops a beak and eyes and eventually soars into the sky, 'we, too, are the eggs of ignorance, which are pitiful things, but when nurtured by the chanting of Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, which is like the warmth of the mother bird, we develop the beak of the thirty-two features and the feathers of the eighty characteristics* and are free to soar into the sky of the true aspect of all phenomena and the reality of all things' (WND–1, 1030).

"In other words, when nurtured by 'the chanting of Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, which is like the warmth of the mother bird' (WND–1, 1030), anyone can attain the great life state of Buddhahood without fail."

The Daishonin writes in a letter 

to one of his followers,
"I have expounded for them 

the teaching 

that I am propagating now,
which will become 

the seed of Buddhahood 

in their future lives as well."*
Inheriting the greatest vow 

that Nichiren Daishonin ever made
when the practice of 

chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo 

was established**,
let's make unceasing efforts,
through having dialogue 

with as many people as possible,
to spread far and wide 

this correct teaching and philosophy
for the sake of securing peace 

and the happiness of all people!

*Gosho: "Many of the practitioners from Sado Province have made the long journey all the way to this place, and that is why I have expounded for them the teaching that I am propagating now, which will become the seed of Buddhahood in their future lives as well." - "Reply to the Lay Priest Misawa" (WND, Vol.2, page 534)

**On April 28, 1253, around noon at Seichoji temple, he refuted the Nembutsu and other Buddhist teachings of his day as erroneous and proclaimed Nam-myoho-renge-kyo to be the sole correct Buddhist teaching for leading all people in the Latter Day of the Law to enlightenment. This is known as the declaration of the establishment of his teaching.

the local community where we live.
Starting with "me,"

let's develop our circles of friendship!

*I therefore say to you: "Dig beneath your feet, there you will find a spring," and "Live in a way that is true to yourself." In short, a real sense of happiness and deep satisfaction in life can only be found within us. ... This is why the place where we carry out our Buddhist practice and also society become the Buddha land. We are able to transform where we live right now into a place of victory and happiness.

"The Daishonin declares: 'The wonderful means of truly putting an end to the physical and spiritual obstacles of all living beings is none other than Nam-myoho-renge-kyo' (WND–1, 842). There are no obstacles that cannot be overcome by chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo. There are no deadlocks in Nichiren Buddhism. Nam-myoho-renge-kyo is the 'wonderful means' for breaking through all obstacles and forging ahead freely in life with courage and composure. That is why the Daishonin urges: 'Employ the strategy of the Lotus Sutra before any other" (WND–1, 1001). When we base our lives on the 'strategy of the Lotus Sutra'— that is, faith in the Mystic Law—we will overcome all problems without fail."
