Nichiren Daishonin writes: 'The purpose of the appearance in this world of Shakyamuni Buddha, the lord of teachings, lies in his behaviour as a human being' (WND–1, 852). The Buddhist way of life is to respect others, guiding and encouraging them towards the great path of happiness. In such behaviour lies the essence of Buddhist practice."
