-- TO MY FRIENDS --
"Enduring difficulties on account of faith equals attaining enlightenment."*
This is the ultimate principle of Buddhism.
Let's courageously confront the hardships and difficulties we face in life!
To be strong is to attain true happiness!

*"During his imprisonment, President Toda had the instantaneous realisation:
'I am a Bodhisattva of the Earth!' He carried out his human revolution
while undergoing great persecution. Enduring difficulties on account of
faith equals attaining enlightenment.

"In truth, he proved with his life the golden words, 'If you are of the same
mind as Nichiren, you must be Bodhisattva of the Earth.' Strictly speaking,
unless we encounter difficulties we cannot genuinely be 'of the same mind as
Nichiren.'

"Enduring hardship on account of faith equals attaining Buddhahood. Because
he struggled against extreme difficulties based on faith in the Mystic Law,
a great transformation occurred in his life. This is just as the Daishonin
indicates where he says, 'Although I and my disciples may encounter various
difficulties, if we do not harbour doubts in our hearts, we will as a matter
of course attain Buddhahood.'

"Enlightenment is not simply a matter of recognition or awareness of
eternal life. This is very important. The eternity of life is not something
to be recognised intellectually, it is something that we have to experience
with our own lives. And only if we practise a correct teaching can we do
so.'

(The Wisdom of the Lotus Sutra, Vol. 3, 'Emerging from the Earth' chapter)

--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"Kyo'o's misfortune will change into fortune. Muster your faith, and pray to
this Gohonzon. Then what is there that cannot be achieved?'

(Reply to Kyo'o - The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin, Vol. 1, page 412)

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"Awakening to one's mission in life is to have a solid foundation as a human
being. Such a person can rapidly develop their talents to the fullest
degree.

"Marie Curie wrote: 'You cannot hope to build a better world without
improving the individuals. To that end each of us must work for [our] own
improvement, and at the same time share a general responsibility for all
humanity, our particular duty being to aid those to whom we think we can be
most useful.' She believed that each person should transform their own
destiny, become aware of their responsibility to humanity as a whole, and
extend a hand to assist those in suffering and need. This is a belief that
resonates strongly with the Soka philosophy of human revolution."

SGI Newsletter No. 7580, ON THE LIFE OF MARIE CURIE, [2] Hardships Are a
Springboard for Growth, from the February 15th, 2008, issue of the Seikyo
Shimbun, translated July 3rd, 2008
