--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"When a strong wind blows, the grass and trees can no
longer remain still; when the earth shakes, the seas are
atremble. Thus if one can move Shakyamuni Buddha, the
lord of teachings, can the grass and trees fail to
respond, can the waters remain calm?

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"Allow me to quickly reconfirm the meaning of the term 'many in body, one in
mind.' 'Many in body'--which can also be expressed as 'different in
body'--refers to the fact that we all have diverse personalities,
characters, and roles to fulfil. 'One in mind'--which can also be expressed
as 'same in heart or spirit'--generally speaking, means sharing the same
basic sense of purpose or values. It also means cherishing a shared wish or
aspiration to realise a lofty goal or ideal.

"In terms of Buddhism, the nucleus of 'being one in mind' is faith based on
the unity of teacher and disciple--that is, each person taking the Buddha's
will and decree of kosen-rufu as their own individual mission and actively
working for its realisation. For disciples to strive and win with the same
spirit as their teacher is the essence of the spirit of many in body, one in
mind.

"The explicit acknowledgment here that, though we unite in spirit, we are
'many in body' or 'different in body' is very important. I find it
profoundly significant that the Daishonin doesn't use the term 'one in body,
one in mind'--which is commonly used in Japanese to signify unity in
conformity--but, rather, the term 'many in body, one in mind,' signalling
unity in diversity. In other words, though we may share the same purpose or
aspiration, there is no need for us to suppress or deny our own
individuality. By each of us uniting together and fully expressing our own
unique potential through the power of the Mystic Law, we can manifest the
invincible strength of the spirit of many in body, one in mind."
