-- TO MY FRIENDS --
When we align our heart with that of our mentor's
and pray sincerely and wholeheartedly towards our common mission,
then we will find that there is no wall too great to be toppled,
no situation too difficult to tackle!
Let us chant daimoku, as if to shake all the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas
of the ten directions into action,
so that they all work to support and protect us.*

* It is by chanting powerful daimoku, like a lion's roar, that we can move
the Buddhist deities, the protective forces of the universe. .. I hope you
will endeavour to chant cheerful and powerful daimoku that reaches all the
Buddhist deities and Buddhas throughout the 10 directions. (For Today and

* ..Bodhisattva Manjushri on Mount Clear and Cool, each together with all

and the Buddhas of the ten directions will come of their own accord and
watch over one through all the hours of the day and night... (WND-1, The

"'The great undertaking of kosen-rufu is a struggle against devilish
functions. We cannot afford to cower at their onslaughts. If we allow them
to defeat us, humanity will be forever enveloped in darkness.' This was the
powerful declaration of my mentor, second Soka Gakkai president Josei
Toda--words that carry an important message for posterity.

"Mr. Toda never retreated a single step in battling malicious or destructive
forces that sought to block the flow of kosen-rufu; he fought on, determined
to put a stop to them. The happiness of all humanity was his goal. Because
he wished to rid the world of suffering and misery, he strove tirelessly to
vanquish all negative forces that inflicted pain and torment on people. To
the very end of his life, he led the way as the supreme commander of
kosen-rufu."
