in the Lotus Sutra."*
Whatever we might have to face,
let's always make daimoku
our foundation
and chant with the strong determination
that "I shall win, no matter what!"

our lives are certain to open up!

"The Soka Gakkai has inherited the Daishonin's vow to realise kosen-rufu and has advanced in the spirit described in the passage: 'The greater the hardships befalling him [the votary of the Lotus Sutra], the greater the delight he feels, because of his strong faith' (WND – 1, 33).
"This year marks 75 years since our founding president Tsunesaburo Makiguchii and his disciple Josei Toda were arrested and imprisoned for their Buddhist beliefs during World War II (in July 1943).
"Mr. Makiguchi remained true to his vow and died in prison, a sublime example of selfless dedication to propagating the Law. While incarcerated, Mr. Toda awakened to his vow from time without beginning and, after his release, stood up as an indomitable champion of faith in the ruins of postwar Japan. He called forth Bodhisattvas of the Earth 'two, three and a hundred' (WND – 1, 385)—in ever-increasing numbers.
"In addition, Mr. Toda developed the idea of human revolution from the Lotus Sutra's teaching that all people can attain enlightenment, and in the final year of his life, made 'faith for overcoming obstacles' one of the Soka Gakkai's eternal guidelines.
"This was his powerful declaration that Soka mentors and disciples can overcome any and every form of adversity they face in life and society, changing poison into medicine and resolutely fulfilling their vow for kosen-rufu."
