The Daishonin quotes this well-known saying in a letter to Shijo Kingo, who had tenaciously fought through a series of hardships to win the trust of others and achieve actual proof of victory in the end.. The Daishonin assures his disciple that more benefit will be forthcoming, saying: 'this is just the beginning; be confident that the great reward also is sure to come' (WND –1, 907)."
