[sgi-tomyfriends-wagatomo] 5th-11th Oct, 2020 Words of the Week, 5th Oct. Daily Gosho + 6th Oct. Daily Encouragement

A translation of "Words of the Week" published in the Seikyo Newspaper based on President Ikeda's recent guidance, and more.

October 5th-11th, 2020
-- WORDS OF THE WEEK --
What it means "to encourage" is
to patiently lend an ear
to what others have to say,
to respect their feelings as they are
and to help lighten their heart.
Together, let's take a step forwards
to revitalising our lives.*

*"Myo means to revive, that is, to return to life" (WND-1, 149).
Chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo revitalises our lives and instills in us fresh hope amid adverse circumstances. Through chanting, we can reveal our Buddhahood. And every suffering can be "revived" or transformed, becoming a springboard towards absolute joy and fulfilment.

--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"Suffer what there is to suffer, enjoy what there is to enjoy. Regard both suffering and joy as facts of life, and continue chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, no matter what happens."

- WND, Vol. 1, page 681)

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"In both life and society, it is in times of great crisis that we can bring forth tremendous inner strength and open the way to a new age.

"Nichiren Daishonin demonstrated this when he cast off his transient status and revealed his true identity as the Buddha of the Latter Day of the Law during the Tatsunokuchi Persecution, thus illuminating all humanity with the light of boundless hope.

"On September 12th, 1271, as he was about to be executed at Tatsunokuchi, the Daishonin showed a life state of supreme dignity, proclaiming calmly to his disciple Shijo Kingo, who had accompanied him at the risk of his own life, 'What greater joy could there be?' (WND-1, 767)."
