-- WORDS OF THE WEEK --
The conviction in the founding spirit
of the Soka Gakkai is based on
-- "the spirit of standing alone"*.
On the main stage
On the main stage
of the vow that we have made,
let's courageously tackle new challenges!
May we all be brave challengers
May we all be brave challengers
for the sake of kosen-rufu!
*Whatever the age, standing alone, or self-reliance, is a fundamental and unchanging principle of kosen-rufu-rufu. Nichiren, as well as presidents Makiguchi and Toda, all resolutely stood alone. This is the spirit of Buddhism and the heart of champions of Soka. To stand alone, practically speaking, means for each of us to take full responsibility for the mission of spreading the Mystic Law in all of our personal realms of influence, including in our families and communities.

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"Illness is a universal suffering; none of us is a stranger to it. But it can cause us to sink into despair, to give up on life and to lose the strength to go on living. This aspect of illness that drains people of their vitality, acting as a 'robber of life,' is why Buddhism views illness as a 'devil,' or a devilish function.

"We need to see this devilish aspect of illness for what it is and courageously combat it through the power of our Buddhist faith and practice. We must resolve not to be defeated by it. Through battling and triumphing over the devil of illness, we can reveal our Buddhahood."

The Difference between Illness and the Devil of Illness, from the September 2019 issue of the Daibyaku-renge, the Soka Gakkai monthly study magazine, translation released August 2020
