[sgi-tomyfriends-wagatomo] Words of the Week March 14th-21st, 2021, Daily Gosho March 14th + Daily Encouragement March 15th

A translation of "Words of the Week" published in the Seikyo Newspaper based on President Ikeda's recent guidance, and more.

March 14th-21st, 2021
-- WORDS OF THE WEEK --
March 16th is the day for us all
to renew our vow for kosen-rufu!*
Together with the Soka youth
 around the world,
holding firm to the resolve to become
"an even deeper blue,"**
through having an even stronger practice,
let's become even bluer than the indigo.
May we all become capable people
**Nichiren Daishonin writes: "T'ien-t'ai states, 'From the indigo, an even deeper blue.' This passage means that, if one dyes something repeatedly in indigo, it becomes even bluer than the indigo leaves. The Lotus Sutra is like the indigo, and the strength of one's practice is like the deepening blue."
(WND-1, page 457)
This allegory of the indigo plant is often used to indicate the disciple growing to surpass the mentor or to describe how deepening our practice leads to strengthening our faith (Ref. NHR, Vol.2, "Vanguard" chapter)

--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"If only you chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, then what offense could fail to be eradicated? What blessing could fail to come? This is the truth, and it is of great profundity. You should believe and accept it."

(Conversation between a Sage
  and an Unenlightened Man
- WND, Vol. 1, page 130)

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"Thanking members of the women's division for their dedicated efforts during the Osaka Campaign, Mr. Toda said: 'Genuine disciples of the Daishonin, true agents of change, are those who put Buddhism into practice in society and strive as hard as they can for the welfare of others, their country and the world. That's what the Soka Gakkai is all about."

Constructing the New Era, Challenge Forge and Strengthen Our Lives, Seikyo Newspaper Nov. 24th, 2020, translation released February 2021

* Osaka Campaign: In May 1956, the Kansai members, uniting around a young Daisaku Ikeda, who had been dispatched by second Soka Gakkai president Josei Toda to support them, introduced 11,111 households to the practice of Nichiren Buddhism in a single month.
