-- TO MY FRIENDS --
Everyone is a person
with a precious noble mission.
Let's try to find the strengths
of each person, sincerely trust them,
and continue to encourage them
to the very end!
Just as Buddhism teaches
the principle of cherry, plum, peach
and damson,*
let's build a beautiful solidarity
of people with diverse talents
in our local community and our district!

*"Buddhism teaches the principle of cherry, plum, peach and damson—that every being is beautiful and valuable as it is, without trying to be something else. Everyone possesses the seed of a precious mission. The purpose of our lives is to make that seed sprout, flourish and blossom."

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"I recall British historian Arnold J. Toynbee (1889-1975) citing four qualities required by leaders in difficult times: vision, moderation, tolerance and endurance. He regarded tolerance as the consummate ability to cheerfully endure and overcome hardships.

"In The Record of the Orally Transmitted Teachings, Nichiren Daishonin states: 'Concerning…the practices carried out by Nichiren and his followers now in the Latter Day of the Law, you should understand that, when one practices the Lotus Sutra under such circumstances, difficulties will arise and those are to be looked on as [peace and comfort]' (cf. OTT, 115). Through our Soka Gakkai activities, we are buoyantly carrying out in today's world the essence of the Buddhist practice the Daishonin describes."

From "Our Journey of Mentor and Disciple Shining with Hope and Victory, Develop a Strong Inner Self through Buddhist Practice." August 31st, 2021, issue of the Seikyo Newspaper, translation released December 2021.
