[sgi-tomyfriends-wagatomo] 20th-26th February, 2023 Words of the Week, 20th February Daily Gosho and 21st February Daily Encouragement

A translation of "Words of the Week" published in the Seikyo Newspaper based on Ikeda Sensei's recent guidance, and more.

February 20th-26th, 2023
-- WORDS OF THE WEEK --
"There is definitely
something extraordinary in the way
in which winter and spring
give way to each other."*
Steadfast, unwavering determination
is what opens the door to victory.
Cheerfully and extensively,
let's try to help
as many people as possible
to form a connection with Buddhism
and become eternally happy.
Remember, just as the Daishonin states,
"The wise will rejoice!"*

*"There is definitely something extraordinary in the ebb and flow of the tide, the rising and setting of the moon, and the way in which summer, autumn, winter, and spring give way to each other. Something uncommon also occurs when an ordinary person attains Buddhahood. At such a time, the three obstacles and four devils will invariably appear, and the wise will rejoice while the foolish will retreat." -
"The Three Obstacles
and Four Devils"

--- DAILY GOSHO ---
Think of this, think of this, never let your mind stray, be firm in faith at all times, and you will "enjoy peace and security in your present existence and good circumstances in future existences."

(The Four Virtues and the Four Debts of Gratitude
- WND, Vol. 2, page 638)

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"Just before his death, the Russian author, Leo Tolstoy (1828-1910) called for his beloved youngest daughter, Alexandra, and dictated some notes to her. One important thing he mentioned at that time was that the more we unite or connect with others, the more we truly exist.* He wanted to have these words recorded for posterity.

"In the Soka Gakkai, this means engaging in dialogue, sharing the Diashonin's teachings with others and advancing kosen-rufu."

11th Soka Gakkai Headquarters Leaders' Meeting, Exerts from Ikeda Sensei's speech at the 13th Soka Gakkai Headquarters Leaders Meeting, July 9th, 1997, translated from the November 22nd, 2022 issue of Seikyo Newspaper, translation released February 2023.
