"In one of his writings, Nichiren Daishonin likens the power of chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo to the singing of a bird. He explains that when a caged bird sings, birds flying in the sky come to gather around it. Seeing this, the bird in the cage tries to get out to join them (see WND-1, 131). In the same way, when you chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, you can call forth your positive potential. You can also draw forth the positive potential in your friends, family and others around you.
