"In the 'Emerging from the Earth' (15th) chapter of the Lotus Sutra is the passage: 'Out of [the earth] emerged at the same instant immeasurable thousands, ten thousands, millions of bodhisattvas and mahasattvas' (LS15, 213). The hallmark of the Bodhisattvas of the Earth is that they are a tremendous force that stands up together and moves forward en masse. Accordingly, our admirable members in Japan and around the globe are forging ahead together with even greater energy, united in spirit and prayer."

Words of encouragement can boost another's confidence a hundred times over!
Let us wholeheartedly praise the efforts of our fellow members who are working selflessly for the sake of kosen-rufu,
"showing them the same respect we would a Buddha."*

* Gosho: "The Fourteen Slanders", WND-1, Page 757, "Even an ignorant person can obtain blessings by serving someone who expounds the Lotus Sutra. No matter if he is a demon or an animal, if someone proclaims even a single verse or phrase of the Lotus Sutra, you must respect him as you would the Buddha. This is what the sutra means when it says, 'You should rise and greet him from afar, showing him the same respect you would a Buddha.' You should respect one another as Shakyamuni and Many Treasures did at the ceremony in the 'Treasure Tower' chapter."

"In August 1957, fighting back against the harsh winds of the Osaka Incident, all of our six chapters in Kansai at that time united together and achieved a brilliant record of nearly 10,000 new member households in a single month. I am reminded of the words of Ihachi Fukuo who, together with his wife Yoshiko, took care of the former Soka Gakkai Kansai headquarters building in Osaka. I have fond memories of them both. Mr. Fukuo said: 'The bonds of mentor and disciple are what enable us to work together in harmonious unity and be filled with great conviction in faith. As long as we have this prime point, Ever-victorious Kansai will never be defeated, no matter what storms or rough seas we may encounter.'

"In 216 B.C.E., the forces led by Hannibal, the great general of Carthage, defeated the powerful Roman army in the famous Battle of Cannae. When Hannibal's compatriot Gisco expressed astonishment at the huge Roman force they confronted, the general said to him cheerfully: 'There is one thing, Gisco, yet more astonishing, which you take no notice of.' And when Gisco asked what that was, Hannibal answered: 'In all those great numbers before us, there is not one man called Gisco.' His remark served to powerfully encourage his troops by diminishing the strength of the enemy in their eyes.

"Our Soka network is a gathering of lionhearted champions—comrades in faith who, in their ungrudging dedication to kosen-rufu, share bonds of unshakable trust. This is what makes our organization so strong."

It is with when we speak and act from the heart that
we can strike a chord in the hearts of others.
The joy that we experience ourselves can move and inspire
others at the same time.
Let's really make a great effort to share this
Buddhism and its philosophy with others
to the very best of our unique abilities!*

*"...in accordance with what they have heard they put
forth effort in preaching and expounding for the sake of
their parents and relatives, their good friends and
acquaintances. These persons, after hearing, respond with
joy and they too set about spreading the teachings. One
person, having heard, responds with joy and spreads the
teachings, and the teachings in this way continue to be
handed along from one to another until they reach a

"The SGI is a diverse gathering of people striving together in the spirit of 'many in body, one in mind' based on the Mystic Law for a common cause. It is a living embodiment of the real aspect of the Gohonzon itself, a depiction of all beings of the Ten Worlds coexisting in harmony and shining with their inherent dignified
attributes illuminated by the light of Nam-myoho-renge-kyo down the centre. By chanting to the Gohonzon, fusing wisdom and reality, we can bring forth the boundless power of the Buddha and the Law. As such, the SGI, carrying on the true lineage of faith of Nichiren Daishonin, epitomises solidarity in the cause of truth, harmonious
unity in the cause of the highest good. Kosen-rufu is the effort to expand this realm of shared aspiration."

-- TO MY FRIENDS --
It is time once again for all of us to stand up together with iron-like unity
and resolve to win yet another resounding victory!*
Directing our energies towards all the great challenges that we must overcome,in order for us to be victorious,
let us have really meaningful and joyful interactions with everyone we meet!

* As you might well know the Japan parliament was dissolved on Monday in order to go to the Japanese people and seek their voice on how Japan should advance from now. The present coalition government of the LDP and Komeito faces an enormous up-hill-battle with the opposition party, mainly comprising of ex-LDP politicians, set to win by a considerable margin by feasting on the dissatisfaction with the present LDP and prime-minister.

Giuseppe Mazzini (1805-72), the Italian thinker and leader of the movement for Italian independence and unification, emphasized the importance of unity, describing it as 'a new philosophy of life.' Unity might seem an old, familiar theme, but it is a constant source of fresh vitality.

"Former Philippine President Fidel Ramos, who played a key role in the 1986 People Power Revolution in the Philippines, called on young people to learn 'a new math' in which one plus one does not only equal two, but can also equal three, or four, or five. In other words, he explained, when people work together they can accomplish
much more than the sum of their individual efforts.

"My mentor, second Soka Gakkai president Josei Toda, declared: 'The Soka Gakkai, which is striving for kosen-rufu in the spirit of many in body, one in mind, is the highest epitome of human harmony.' of the universe and our lives connect with the great life of the universe, thereby
enabling us to bring forth incredible life-force.'

"Accordingly, there are no hardships or sufferings in life that we cannot overcome,
and no way that we will fail to become happy. Mr. Toda also said that if we exert
ourselves assiduously in faith, practice, and study, we would not remain forever
deluded, unenlightened people at the mercy of various sufferings. All of the members
of the SGI can bring their lives to shine with the same brilliant life-state of the
Buddha."
