--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"This one word 'together' means that, as long as they are together with Nichiren, they will reach the treasure land. But if they are not together with him, they will fall into the great citadel of the Avichi hell."
(Ongi kuden - Gosho Zenshu, page 734, The Record of the Orally Transmitted Teachings, page 78) Selection source: President Ikeda's Essay, Seikyo Shimbun, May 4th

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"During World War II, the Japanese militarist authorities confiscated our founding president Tsunesaburo Makiguchi's copy of The Record of the Orally Transmitted Teachings. In it, Mr. Makiguchi, who later died in prison for his beliefs, had underlined the passage: 'The Buddha of the true aspect of reality resides in the midst of the mud and mire of earthly desires' (OTT, 91). A genuine Buddha is not simply content with savouring personal enlightenment. True Buddhahood is the spirit to throw oneself into the problems and sufferings of real life and strive for the sake of the Mystic Law, the happiness of others, and the welfare of society, wrestling strenuously with the mud and mire of life's challenges. The Soka Gakkai--exemplified by Ever-victorious Kansai whose growth I personally fostered--is an invincible champion of people's happiness that epitomises the very essence of Buddhahood.
"The great Russian author Leo Tolstoy (1828-1910) wrote: 'They are terribly wronged--the people--and they must not be wronged, and therein lies our whole task.'
"With even greater harmony and good cheer, let us expand our great, hope-filled network of ordinary people so that we can transform the unhappy karma of humankind."
