-- TO MY FRIENDS --
Laboremus - Let's get to work!*
Today, again, with a youthful spirit,
let's advance and challenge.
If we set out on our day with fervor and passion
a path will certainly open up!

* Laboremus - (Latin) - Let's get to work! This was the motto of the historian Arnold Toynbee.**

** New Human Revolution,Volume 16, Dialogue-31:

Toynbee replied to Shin'ichi's question by saying that he awoke at 6:45 every morning, and after preparing breakfast for himself and his wife and making the bed, he began working at 9:00 a.m. "The important thing," he said, "is to just start working. If you wait until you feel like working, you'll never accomplish anything." He added that it gave him satisfaction to think that his writing contributed something to the world.

Shin'ichi then asked him if he had any personal mottos. Toynbee immediately responded: "Laboremus—that's Latin for 'Let's get to work.'" He then went on to explain that the origin of this saying traced back to the Roman Emperor Septimius Severus, who lived from the end of the second to the beginning of the third century. Apparently, Septimius fell seriously ill while leading a campaign in Britannia (modern England). He realised he was about to die. It had been his practice to deliver an inspiring motto to his troops on a daily basis, and even as he faced his end, he rallied his strength and offered them one last bit of encouragement: "Laboremus!"

--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"Although I and my disciples may encounter various difficulties, if we do not harbour doubts in our hearts, we will as a matter of course attain Buddhahood."

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"No successful person has led a life that was only smooth sailing without exerting great effort. No one has ever triumphed in life without experiencing failures and setbacks. True victors in life are those who have persevered arduously through hardship, stood on the edge of despair many times, yet pressed forward tenaciously, again and again."
