"'One who abides by the Lotus Sutra will inevitably attain Buddhahood. Therefore, the devil king of the sixth heaven, the lord of this threefold world, will become intensely jealous of anyone who abides by the sutra.'

-From "The Actions of the Votary of the Lotus Sutra" (WND–1, 779).

"Those who dedicate their lives to kosen-rufu are advancing along the great path to attaining Buddhahood, the path of absolute happiness. Hence, the devil king of the sixth heaven resents and seeks to obstruct our way forwards.

"The same is true of the devil of illness. We mustn't be defeated. We must see devilish functions for what they are with the eyes of faith and thoroughly vanquish them.

"The Daishonin assures us that we will 'inevitably attain Buddhahood.' I hope those who are struggling with illness, as well as those who are caring for and nursing sick or elderly family members, will continue striving wisely and courageously on the path of transforming the destiny of themselves and others, confident of the great beneficial power of the Mystic Law."
