Words of the Week Sep. 25-Oct 1, 2023, Daily Gosho Sep. 25 + Daily Encouragement Sep. 26

A translation of "Words of the Week" published in the Seikyo Newspaper based on Ikeda Sensei's  recent guidance, and more.

September 25th-October 1st, 2023
-- WORDS OF THE WEEK --
"Without practice and study,
there can be no Buddhism."*
To have faith, means
to bravely put  what we have learnt
from the Daishonin's teachings
into action.
Now, together,
let's become "great professors"
of this life philosophy!

*"Exert yourself in the two ways of practice and study. Without practice and study, there can be no Buddhism. You must not only persevere yourself; you must also teach others. Both practice and study arise from faith. Teach others to the best of your ability, even if it is only a single sentence or phrase."
- "The True Aspect of All Phenomena"
(WND, Vol.1, page 386)

--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"What a joy it is for us to have been born in the Latter Day of the Law and to have shared in the propagation of the Lotus Sutra! How pitiful are those who, though born in this time, cannot believe in this sutra!"

(Letter to Niike
- WND, Vol.  page 1026)

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ——
"'I may have been at the [Ceremony in the Air], but since I am a common mortal, it is beyond my power to know the past. There is no doubt, however, that in my present life I am the votary of the Lotus Sutra, and that in the future I will therefore reach the seat of enlightenment without fail.'

—'The True Aspect of All Phenomena' (WND-1, 386).

"How incredibly profound are the karmic ties we share as fellow members who chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo for the happiness of ourselves and others at this present time. We are Bodhisattvas of the Earth who are directly connected to Nichiren Daishonin, the Buddha of the Latter Day of the Law, and we were undoubtedly at the Ceremony in the Air.

"On our journey of mentor and disciple, embracing the foremost life philosophy, we accumulate 'treasures of the heart' (WND-1, 851) that nothing can ever destroy. Don't keep dwelling on past setbacks and disappointments. Nichiren Buddhism teaches the importance of the present and the future. Let's take a courageous step towards the future with a firm vow from where we are now."

Towards a Hope-Filled Future with the Daishonin's Writings, Take a Courageous Step Towards the Future, translated from the June 21st, 2023, issue of the Seiko Newspaper, translation released August 2023.
