-- TO MY FRIENDS --
Let's do our very best to inspire our Future Division
members (primary and secondary school students),
who are priceless treasures of the world!
Our heartfelt appreciation goes to all those members who look after
our precious Future Division members
and for all the warm encouragement and support they give them.
By sincerely believing in each of our young people's possibilities,
let's help them to grow so that every one of them
becomes a great individual like a great big tree.

--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"A bird's egg contains nothing but liquid, yet by itself this develops into a beak, two eyes, and all the other parts, and the bird soars into the sky. We, too, are the eggs of ignorance, which are pitiful things, but when nurtured by the chanting of Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, which is like the warmth of the mother bird, we develop the beak of the thirty-two features and the feathers of the eighty characteristics and are free to soar into the sky of the true aspect of all phenomena and the reality of all things."

(Letter to Niike - The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin, Vol.1, page 1030)

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"President Toda declared: 'We mustn't look down on ourselves. We are emissaries of the Buddha. We have been sent here by the Buddha. We are emanations of the Daishonin. Though we appear to be ordinary people, we are actually supremely noble and worthy of the highest respect.'

"In the early days of our movement, the Soka Gakkai was often derided by mean-spirited individuals as nothing more than a 'gathering of the poor and sick.' Mr. Toda urged that we pointedly retort: 'Well, just how many of the poor and sick have you helped, then?'

"A philosophy of real benefit is one that gives hope and inspiration to those in the depths of suffering and despair and guides them to happiness.

"For those who practise the Daishonin's Buddhism of the people, encountering baseless slander and abuse is a supreme badge of honour. That is why the more scornful and disparaging others have been, the more our members, proud of their mission, have burned with a passionate fighting spirit and ventured forth to encourage and support those who are suffering.

"Our members, noble Bodhisattvas of the Earth, have purposely taken on arduous struggles to overcome negative karma so that they can help or inspire those facing similar situations to courageously stand up and challenge their circumstances.

"'I am a Bodhisattva of the Earth!'--when we return to this eternal vow from time without beginning, we can change all negative karma into mission. Just as the rising sun paints the dark clouds in hues of gold, we can break through our sufferings and shine with the light of joy."

SGI Newsletter No. 8036, The Noble Vow of Bodhisattvas of the Earth Is the Heart of Soka, from the May 2010 issue of the Daibyakurenge, translated July 16th, 2010
