-- TO MY FRIENDS --
The most important thing in our Buddhist practice is the "heart".*
If we continue to challenge ourselves with a willing mind and positive attitude,
we will definitely make outstanding progress and
manifest enormous benefit in our lives.
Brimming with enthusiasm, let's take action now!

--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"In this world, we owe four debts of gratitude. One who understands this is worthy to be called human, while one who does not is no more than an animal."

(Conversation between a Sage and an Unenlightened Man - The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin, Volume 1, page 122) Selection source: "Kyo no Hosshin", Seikyo Shimbun, October 27th, 2012

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"I once spoke with a leader who was having a hard time getting members together. I told him: 'If you yourself chant for kosen-rufu and for each of your members, and persevere in faith not only for your own happiness but also make efforts to share the Daishonin's Buddhism with others, your daimoku will draw people to you.'

"By steadily carrying out dialogues like this with one person after another, we were able to expand the young men's division membership from about 300 to 1,000 in the space of a year. That was also the result of the power of unity.

"When we aim to achieve a big goal, there are bound to be big obstacles, too. That's the time to encourage and help each other. Nichiren Daishonin writes that a transplanted tree will not be blown down if it has a firm stake or support to hold it up (WND-1, 598).[1] Even if a person faces some unbearable adversity or suffering, they will be able to keep on going if they are supported by the people around them. Conversely, even someone who is doing quite well can grow disheartened and lose their way if they are isolated and alone.

"One person solidly connecting to another—this is how we have built the vast, magnificent gathering of capable individuals that is today's SGI."

SGI Newsletter No. 8654, To My Young Friends - Leaders of a New Age. [6] Working Together in Harmonious Unity - Part 2 [of 3], from 3rd Oct., 2012, issue of the Seikyo Shimbun, translated 24th Oct., 2012.

[1] The Daishonin writes: "When a tree has been transplanted, though fierce winds may blow, it will not topple if it has a firm stake to hold it up. But even a tree that has grown up in place may fall over if its roots are weak. Even a feeble person will not stumble if those supporting him are strong, but a person of considerable strength, when alone, may fall down on an uneven path" (WND-1, 598).
