The Daishonin encourages us,
"You have associated with a friend
in the orchid room and have become
as straight as mugwort growing among hemp."*
By interacting with others
we can help to refine and uplift one another.
Let's cultivate and spread
great friendships and bonds
by doing so.
*"How gratifying! You have associated with a friend in the orchid room and have become as straight as mugwort growing among hemp." - "On Establishing the Correct Teaching for the Peace of the Land", WND-I, page 23
(Note: "A friend in the orchid room" indicates a person of virtue. The implication is that the company of a virtuous person works as a good influence, just as one is imbued with fragrance on entering a room filled with orchids. It is said that mugwort supported by hemp plants grows upright. - WND-I, page30)

"'The heavenly gods and benevolent deities, as well as the bodhisattvas numerous as the dust particles of a thousand worlds who emerged from beneath the ground, will protect . . . the votary of the Lotus Sutra. Under their protection, he will [establish and] spread abroad widely throughout Jambudvipa [the entire world] the object of devotion of the essential teaching, or the five characters of Myoho-renge-kyo.'

"The Soka Gakkai has spread the Mystic Law throughout the world in exact accord with Nichiren Daishonin's prediction. Today, its noble members in Japan and in countries around the globe are chanting and striving to fulfil their vow to propagate the great teaching of Nam-myoho-renge-kyo.
"We have entered an age when the Buddhism of the sun is beginning to brightly illuminate humanity. As the organisation faithfully carrying on the Daishonin's spirit, let's triumphantly open the way to happiness and peace through compassionately sharing Nichiren Buddhism with others, as we draw forth ever greater protection from the positive functions of the universe."
