[sgi-tomyfriends-wagatomo] May 10th-16th, 2021Words of the Week, May 10th Daily Gosho + May 11th Daily Encouragement

A translation of "Words of the Week" published in the Seikyo Newspaper based on President Ikeda's recent guidance, and more.

May 10th-16th , 2021
-- WORDS OF THE WEEK --
It's the courage
 to challenge ourselves
that makes for our happiness in life
and a triumphant achievement
 for kosen-rufu.
By chanting daimoku
with the strong determination to win,
let's break down the walls of obstacles
 within ourselves that hinder
  our progress!
The Daishonin encourages us,
"The wise will rejoice."*

*Gosho: "Something uncommon also occurs when an ordinary person attains Buddhahood. At such a time, the three obstacles and four devils will invariably appear, and the wise will rejoice while the foolish will retreat."
- WND, Vol.1, page 637

--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"Each and every one of you should be certain deep in your heart that sacrificing your life for the Lotus Sutra is like exchanging rocks for gold or dung for rice."

(The Actions of the Votary of the Lotus Sutra
- WND, Vol. 1, page 764)

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"Having endured a freezing winter on Sado Island, Nichiren Daishonin wrote: 'Wherever we dwell and practice the single vehicle [the Lotus Sutra], that place will be the Capital of Eternally Tranquil Light'* (WND–1, 313).

"While overcoming all kinds of persecution and hardship, the Daishonin opened the way to hope and victory, showing us the means by which we can surmount any adversity, confident that 'Winter always turns to spring' (WND–1, 536).

"The key is to keep practising the Mystic Law, just as we are and in the place where we are right now. Our lives as practitioners who chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo are treasure towers. Our homes where the Gohonzon is enshrined and our communities where we work for kosen-rufu are 'Capitals of Eternally Tranquil Light.'"

Our Journey of Mentor and Disciple Shining with Hope and Victory (NEW SERIES), Making Our Homes and Communities "Capitals of Eternally Tranquil Light." 4th January 2021 Seikyo Newspaper, translation released April 2021.

* Capital of Eternally Tranquil Light: Synonymous with the Land of Eternally Tranquil Light. The Buddha land, which is free from impermanence and impurity. In many sutras, this world in which human beings live is described as an impure land filled with delusions and sufferings, while the Buddha land is described as a pure land free from these and far removed from this world. In contrast, the Lotus Sutra reveals the world where we live to be the Buddha land, or the Land of Eternally Tranquil Light and explains that the nature of a land is determined by the minds of its inhabitants.
