"'Practitioners of the Lotus Sutra should think of the place where they are as the pure land. Why worry about trying to go somewhere else?'
The Record of the Orally Transmitted Teachings says: The word "rose" indicates that the Buddha has risen from his seat within the treasure tower, and that the ceremony held outside the tower will now begin. This ceremony is the entrustment of the teachings as indicated in the three pats that the Buddha gives to the heads of the bodhisattvas.

"Today, our members all around the world, as Bodhisattvas of the Earth, are chanting and working tirelessly to make their land 'safe and tranquil' (cf. LSOC 16, 272).
"The protective functions of the universe will respond without fail to the sound of our chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo that envelops the globe. Let's strive to create a world pervaded by 'order and tranquility' (cf.WND–1, 22), starting from the places where we are now."
