"And when teacher and disciples have fully responded to
one another and the disciples have received the teaching,
so that they gain the awakening referred to where the
sutra says, 'I took a vow, / hoping to make all persons /
equal to me, without any distinction between us' (chapter
two), this is what the sutra calls 'causing living beings
to awaken to the Buddha wisdom.'"

"Nichiren Daishonin states: 'For Nichiren's disciples and lay supporters,
the true cause is more important than the true effect. There can be no true
effect without the true cause' (GZ, 808). Crucial above all is true cause.
The Daishonin revealed that the fundamental cause or seed that enables all
people to attain the highest state of happiness--the state of Buddhahood--is
Nam-myoho-renge-kyo. Anyone who chants and lives in accord with the Mystic
Law--in the place and time in which they find themselves right now--can
return to the supremely noble life-state of the Buddha of time without
beginning. We can make a fresh beginning at every moment, brimming with
vibrant life-force, like the dawning of a new day's sun. There's no need for
us to lament our past karma. Everything starts from now, from this present
moment. The future lies ahead of us."
