-- TO MY FRIENDS --
SGI meetings are a grand stage upon which
each one of us has a chance to play a lead role!
The success of every meeting depends on the determination that each one of
us makes,
the personal experiences in faith that each of us brings along,
and the efforts we all make to work together in harmony and unity.
Playing out our respective parts, let's adorn our meetings, the noble
gathering of Buddhas*,
with victories and successes.

* If we examine the "Treasure Tower" chapter of the Lotus Sutra, we find
Shakyamuni Buddha, Many Treasures Buddha, and the Buddhas of the ten
directions who are emanations of Shakyamuni Buddha gathering together. And
why? As the sutra itself says, "Each . . . has come to this place on purpose
to make certain the Law will long endure."
(Opening of the Eyes Part I - WND-1, Page 286)

* "When the times are dark and gloomy--indeed, precisely at such times--we
should advance with dynamism and good cheer. We should strive to brighten
and lift the spirits of those around us. Soka Gakkai meetings should be the
most energetic, inspiring, and vibrant gatherings in the world. If the
meetings are filled with people who are tired and listless, thinking 'Not
another meeting,' 'Not another activity,' even their applause will sound
weary. [Laughter.] Meetings in the early days of our movement were
incredibly lively, and the applause, too, was always enthusiastic and
powerful. Such meetings are energizing, and that's good for our health, too.
(SGI Newsletter No. 7644, 22nd Soka Gakkai Headquarters Leaders Meeting,
Sep. 30th, 2008).

--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"To discard the shallow and seek the profound is the way of a person of
courage."

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"The English poet Robert Browning (1812-89) wrote: 'I was ever a fighter,'
and 'We fall to rise, [buffeted] to fight better.' I have treasured these
words since I was a youth.

"As you know, I have adhered to the challenging path of kosen-rufu since the
age of 19. Over those long years, I've faced harsh and bitter times. But one
who is dedicated to the mission of spreading the Mystic Law will be
protected by all of the benevolent forces in the universe. No way of life
could be more exhilarating than this.

"There is no defeat for those who practice the Mystic Law. One who is not
defeated is an eternal victor, a monarch of happiness, and a master of life.
This is what our Buddhist faith is for, and this is why we proceed along
this path. A veritable mountain of treasures and innumerable benevolent
deities joyfully await all who push ahead."

Members of the Men's Division, Champions of Kosen-rufu—Part 1 [of 2], from
