-- TO MY FRIENDS --
Faith is, without question, the very source of absolute victory.
In our work, in our SGI activities,
let's all put forth our very best effort and play out
a thrilling drama of "making the impossible possible"!

* "Anyone would think that victory is impossible," Shin'ichi said, "and
that's probably how you feel right now. But don't forget this marvellous
Gohonzon we have. It has the power to transform what you'd normally think
impossible into something possible. Those who give up before they try don't
really know the power of the Mystic Law."

"As long as we look at our situation with only ordinary reason, there won't
be the slightest chance for us to win. But the Daishonin tells us plainly
that the Gohonzon has infinite power. The only question is whether or not we
believe him. If we think that we are really disciples of the Daishonin, we
first have to pray powerfully to carry out the kind of courageous practice
that can make the impossible possible."
(The Human Revolution, Vol. 10, "Determination" chapter)

"If you are half-hearted about your job, you can never put your full
strength into your religious activities,
either."

"Now is the time for you to clench your teeth and exert yourself both in
your work and in your faith, no matter how hard pressed you are. As the
Daishonin assures us, 'Those who believe in the Lotus Sutra are as if in
winter, but winter always turns to spring' (WND-I, p.536). Don't worry. The
Gohonzon knows everything. You are now in winter. To you it may seem to last
forever, but no winter ever fails to turn into spring. All you need to do
now is to muster your courage. I hope you'll do your best."
(The Human Revolution, Vol. 10, "Leap Forward" chapter)

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"This year will mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of American
President Abraham Lincoln (1809-65), who paved the way for the abolition of
slavery in the United States with his Emancipation Proclamation. One of the
qualities that characterised this outstanding leader was his humility and
unaffectedness.

"The American industrialist and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie (1835-1919)
praised Lincoln's warm humanity, saying: 'I never met a great man who so
thoroughly made himself one with all men as Mr. Lincoln.' He also remarked:
'His manners were perfect because [they were] natural.... His attentions [to
others] were not graduated. They were the same to all, as deferential in
talking to the messenger boy as to [the secretary of state]. His charm lay
in the total absence of [pretension].... He was the most perfect democrat,
revealing in every word and act the equality of men.

"Genuine leaders in a democracy are humble and don't think they are better
than others. They listen to others and are dedicated to serving them."
