"In 'On the Treasure Tower,' the Daishonin declares: 'In the Latter Day of the Law, no treasure tower exists other than the figures of the men and women who embrace the Lotus Sutra' (WND-1, 299). As he states in this letter, which is one of the study materials for the upcoming exam, from the perspective of Buddhism all who chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo are themselves the infinitely precious treasure tower and are themselves Many Treasures Buddha attesting to the truth of the Mystic Law (cf. WND-1, 299).
"No matter what our personal background or present circumstances, our age or gender, our ethnic or racial identity, our financial or social standing, nothing can prevent us from shining as the treasure tower. No matter what illnesses or obstacles befall us, no matter what disasters or karmic sufferings assail us, nothing can get in the way of our happiness.
"Our lives each have their own unique brilliance and, by following the path of our mission in this lifetime, we can open the way to happiness for both ourselves and others. This philosophy of Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism, which teaches respect for all people and the sanctity of life, deeply resonates with the ideals of champions of the spirit everywhere who seek and strive for the common values of freedom, equality, human rights, peace, and respect for the environment.
"In 'The Twenty-six Admonitions of Nikko,' Nikko Shonin declares: 'We have fortunately been able to encounter this [Lotus] sutra due to a profound karmic connection' (GZ, 1617)."
