"'It starts with me! It starts from now!'--as long as we have this courageous, self-motivated spirit of a lion king in faith, we can definitely triumph over all adversity. The noble undertaking of kosen-rufu in the Latter Day of the Law began with the solitary, selfless struggle of Nichiren Daishonin, who pledged to lead all people to enlightenment. Similarly, the present flow of worldwide kosen-rufu we see today also began with Tsunesaburo Makiguchi and Josei Toda, our first and second presidents, standing up to correctly practise the Daishonin's teachings and establish the Soka Gakkai. Personal initiative--self-motivation--is the very essence of the Soka Gakkai's founding spirit."
