A translation of President Ikeda's "Words of the Week"
published in the Seikyo Shinbun and more.
June 27th - July 3rd 2016
-- WORDS OF THE WEEK --
"To employ the strategy of the Lotus Sutra"* means
to chant daimoku seriously and earnestly.
It's to have solid wise unity and
to courageously take on any and all challenges
that may confront us, to the very end!
Today, again,
let's achieve a breakthrough.
* "Employ the strategy of the Lotus Sutra before any other." - "The Strategy of the Lotus Sutra", WND-I, page 1001
Monday, June 27th, 2016
--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"What can we say, then, of persons who are devoting themselves to Buddhism? Surely they should not forget the debts of gratitude they owe to their parents, their teachers, and their country. But if one intends to repay these great debts of gratitude, one can hope to do so only if one learns and masters Buddhism, becoming a person of wisdom."
(On Repaying Debts of Gratitude
- WND, Vol. I, page 600)

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"'How could I . . . think lightly of those who, even for a day, have acted as allies and extended their sympathy to me?'
- From "Reply to the Lay Priest Takahashi" (WND-1, 608).
"Not thinking lightly of those who, even for a day, had extended their sympathy to him—this is the immense, all-embracing compassion of Nichiren Daishonin, the Buddha of the Latter Day of the Law.
"Kosen-rufu is a grassroots movement based on meeting with and encouraging others, one by one, in the same spirit as the Daishonin. Let's reach out to those around us and engage in dialogues filled with courage, sincerity, and conviction.
"Let's steadfastly build networks of lasting trust in our communities by connecting with others—members and nonmembers alike—and joyfully sharing with them the teachings of Nichiren Buddhism."
SGI Newsletter 9411, Advancing with the Gosho: Words of Encouragement from SGI President Ikeda, (17) Let's Meet with and Encourage Others, from 2nd June, 2016, issue of the Seikyo Shinbun, translation released 23rd June, 2016
