A translation of "Words of the Week" published in the Seikyo Shinbun based on President Ikeda's recent guidance, and more.
July 17th-23rd, 2017
-- WORDS OF THE WEEK --
Ah summer,
one of the very best seasons
to cultivate fresh and lively friendships
and enlarge our circle of friends.
At the same time,
the summer creates many a good opportunity
for our young successors of kosen-rufu
to really grow and develop
by using what they learn
about this faith and practice from us.
By chanting powerful daimoku
let's spend each day in great "rhythm"!

--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"Persons who study the teachings of Buddhism must also [observe the ideal of filial piety and] understand and repay their obligations. The disciples of the Buddha must without fail understand the four debts of gratitude and know how to repay them."
(The Opening of the Eyes
- WND, Vol. I, page 228)

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"The Daishonin writes: 'Whether or not your prayer is answered will depend on your faith; [if it is not] I will in no way be to blame' (WND-1, 1079). In other words, whether or not our prayers are answered is entirely up to the strength of our faith.
"The Daishonin also says: 'When water is clear, the moon is reflected' (WND-1, 1079). The moon reflects beautifully on clear, calm water, but not on water that is muddy and swirling. In the same way that the moon is clearly reflected in pure waters, great benefit manifests clearly in the life of a person of pure, strong faith. On the other hand, the life of a person of weak faith is like muddy, unsettled water. Just as such water won't reflect the moon, their faith will not allow them to enjoy rich benefit. It's therefore crucial that we maintain pure and steadfast faith.
"Our lives and the Soka Gakkai are sure to be assailed by various storms of adversity in the future. But no matter what happens, please keep practising with the Soka Gakkai, with pure faith. If you do that, you will lead a life of great victory that will enable you to proudly declare in the end: 'I am genuinely happy! I had a truly wonderful life!'"
