[sgi-tomyfriends-wagatomo] Words of the Week Nov. 28th-Dec. 4th, 2022 + Daily Gosho Nov. 28th and Daily Encouragement Nov. 29

A translation of "Words of the Week" published in the Seikyo Newspaper based on Ikeda Sensei's recent guidance, and more.

November 28th-December 4th, 2022
-- WORDS OF THE WEEK --
Only through the unity of
the Soka mentor and disciple
who chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo
with the spirit of
many in body but one in mind
can the heritage of faith flow on.*
Now,
more proudly and confidently
than ever,
let's spread far and wide,
deeply rooted among the people,
this religious philosophy
that uplifts humanity!**

*"All disciples and lay supporters of Nichiren should chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo with the spirit of many in body but one in mind ... This spiritual bond is the basis for the universal transmission of the ultimate Law of life and death."
- The Heritage of the Ultimate
Law of Life
(WND, Vol.1, page 217)

**"The second point I would like to touch upon is the role that Buddhism can play in the restoration of humanity, the rejuvenation of the human person.  In an age marked by widespread religious revival, we need always to ask: Does religion make people stronger, or does it weaken them? Does it encourage what is good or what is evil in them? Are they made better and more wise--or less--by religion? These, I believe, are the criteria we must keep firmly in view."

Delivered at Harvard University,
September 24, 1993)

--- DAILY GOSHO ---
In this chapter Shakyamuni Buddha revealed the foremost point he wished to convey to us. ... "... if you see a person who accepts and upholds this sutra, you should rise and greet him from afar, showing him the same respect you would a Buddha."
(Encouragements of the
Bodhisattva Universal Worthy chapter
- OTT, page 192)

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"Our mind, our life at each moment, is an ineffable thing, without colour or form and transcending the categories of being and non-being, existence and non-existence. The Buddhist sutras teach that 'a single person in the course of a single day has eight million four thousand thoughts' (WND –2, 307). Our momentary thoughts or states of mind, arise and fade in constant succession, triggered by various causes and conditions.

"The question is whether we elevate these constantly changing life moments, and direct them towards good, towards happiness or allow them to spiral in a cycle of suffering that leads to a life state of hell."

The Buddhism of the Sun--Illuminating the World, [80] Our Powerful Resolve Reverberates throughout the Universe, Chanting to Win Out Over Our Deluded Selves, December 2021 Daibyakurenge, translation released October, 2022.
