[SGI-ToMyFriends-Wagatomo] Words of the Week Dec. 15th-21st + Daily Gosho Dec. 15th + Daily Enc. Dec. 16th

* Japanese Press holiday today so we held on to "Words of the Week" to cover
the gap, hope that is OK.

A translation of President Ikeda's "Words of the Week"
published in the Seikyo Shimbun and more.

December 15th-21st, 2008
-- WORDS OF THE WEEK --
To all of our youth who are in the midst of studying for entrance exams,*
we are all sincerely praying for your success and wish you all the very
best!
By offering a few words of encouragement,
even just jotting down a few lines on a postcard, etc.(can greatly help and
encourage).
Let's do our best to take care of and support our young people
so that, in the future, they will grow into mighty trees.

* The Japanese school year finishes in March of next year so from here on
until the end of February there are various forms of exams going on to
determine which school students can enter.

--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"'Hatred' refers to those who have not yet freed themselves from
impediments, and 'jealousy' to those who take no delight in listening to the
doctrine.'"

(The Opening of the Eyes - The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin, Vol.1, page
240) Selection source: "Hajakensei", Seikyo Shimbun, December 14th, 2008

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"The ancient Greek historian Herodotus said: 'He is the best man who is
timid in counsel because he takes all that may befall him into account, but
in action is bold.' Careful planning and bold action constitute the formula
for victory.

"The Japanese author Sohachi Yamaoka (1907-78) wrote in his well-known epic
novel Tokugawa Ieyasu: 'People should be on their guard when they are in the
best of health and fortune is with them, but they must also guard against
inertia when they are tired.' Of course when you're tired, it's important to
get the rest you need, but it's also important not to lose your vital spirit
and grow apathetic."

Challenging Our Human Revolution, from the Nov. 14th, 2008, issue of the
Seikyo Shimbun, translated Dec. 9th, 2008.
