-- TO MY FRIENDS --
It is those who have encountered the greatest suffering
that have the opportunity, and ability, to become the happiest!
They are also the ones
who can help their friends become happy, too.
That is what our practice is here to help us achieve.
So now, let's take one hope-filled step forwards.

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"The German composer Ludwig van Beethoven (1770–1827), who overcame great personal suffering to create an immortal song of inner joy, in his later years offered these warm words of encouragement to a visiting youth: 'Bring as much happiness as you can to others. Nothing is finer or nobler.' [1] That young man was Franz Liszt (1811–86), the Hungarian composer, who went on to respond to Beethoven's encouragement by achieving his own outstanding musical compositions."

SGI Newsletter No. 8468, 56th Soka Gakkai Headquarters Leaders Meeting, Happiness Ripples Out from Ties of Mutual Support and Encouragement, from the March 4th, 2012, issue of the Seikyo Shimbun, translated March 9th, 2012.
