-- TO MY FRIENDS --
To all of you, my dear friends,
who are facing hardships right now,
never ever give up, no matter what!
Now is the time to chant daimoku
with an indomitable determination
and show how we can indeed change our karma.
To be victorious in the end,
this is the guarantee of this practice!

--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"For example, if a commanding general is fainthearted, his soldiers will become cowards. If a bow is weak, the bowstring will be slack. If the wind is gentle, the waves will never rise high. This all accords with the principles of nature."

(The Unity of Husband and Wife - The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin, Vol.1, page 464) Selection source: SGI President Ikeda's guidance, Seikyo Shimbun, September 2nd, 2014

—— DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ——
"In his treatise 'The Opening of the Eyes,' Nichiren Daishonin quotes the profound sutra passage: 'If you want to understand the causes that existed in the past, look at the results as they are manifested in the present. And if you want to understand what results will be manifested in the future, look at the causes that exist in the present'[1] (WND-1, 279).

"The present, this moment, is incredibly important. As SGI members, we have engraved this truth deeply in our lives. This is because the Daishonin's Buddhism teaches the mystic principle of true cause.[2] The determination to not dwell pointlessly on the past, but, instead, to constantly make a fresh vow here and now is a source of courage and the cause for all future victory."

SGI Newsletter No. 9071, The Song of Human Victory, To You, My Youthful Friends, Who Share a Noble Vow, from 11th July, 2014, issue of the Seikyo Shimbun, translation released 26th Aug. 2014

[1] The Contemplation on the Mind-Ground Sutra.
[2] Mystic principle of the true cause: Also, true cause. Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism directly expounds the true cause for enlightenment as Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, which is the Law of life and the universe. It teaches a way of Buddhist practice of always moving forwards from this moment on based on this fundamental Law.
