A translation of President Ikeda's "To My Friends" published in the Seikyo Shimbun and more. Thursday, Jan 15th, 2015 -- TO MY FRIENDS -- The time when we are facing hardships is the greatest chance for us to transform our karma! Remember that "winter always turns to spring."* Those who stick to their faith no matter what are undoubtedly able to manifest the supreme life condition of happiness. *Gosho: "Those who believe in the Lotus Sutra are as if in winter, but winter always turns to spring. Never, from ancient times on, has anyone heard or seen of winter turning back to autumn. Nor have we ever heard of a believer in the Lotus Sutra who turned into an ordinary person. The sutra reads, 'If there are those who hear the Law, then not a one will fail to attain Buddhahood.'" (Winter Always Turns to Spring - WND-1, pg 536) Thursday, Jan 15th, 2015 --- DAILY GOSHO --- "At first only Nichiren chanted Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, but then two, three, and a hundred followed, chanting and teaching others. Propagation will unfold this way in the future as well." (The True Aspect of All Phenomena - The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin, page 385) Selection source: The New Human Revolution, Seikyo Shimbun, Jan 15th, 2015 * Yesterday's gosho was from The Difficulty of Sustaining Faith - The WND, Vol 1, page 471 Friday, Jan 16th, 2015 ---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ---- "In recent years, the UK government commissioned a report compiled by hundreds of scientists on how to achieve greater mental well-being. [1] The report identifies five ways to improve such well-being in our daily lives: (1) Connect (2) Be active (3) Take notice (4) Keep learning (5) Give "In other words, valuing your family, friends, and neighbours and reaching out to and forging connections with people; being vibrantly active; engaging with society and your environment; continuing to learn; and doing things for others—these are all part of the recipe for a happy life and a positive mental state. Our daily SGI activities contain all five of these elements. "Each day, all of you are exerting yourselves in the 'two ways of practice and study' (WND-1, 386). You are taking action for others' happiness, engaging in dialogue, and sending smiles of encouragement to your friends and neighbours. You are making efforts to promote friendship in your communities and to contribute positively to society. In the light of the latest scientific research, this steady accumulation of efforts is the way to lead the most fulfilling life."
