-- TO MY FRIENDS --
Buddhism teaches the principle of
"cherry, plum, peach or apricot blossom".*
Each and every one of us has a unique mission
that only we ourselves can fulfil.
On the stage of our very own lives,
let's perform victorious dramas
as celebrated actors and actresses!
Let's play the leading role
with the never give up spirit!

*Each of us is as unique as a cherry, plum, peach or apricot blossom, like Nichiren states in the Gosho. Cherry blossoms are cherry blossoms and plum blossoms are plum blossoms. Accordingly, you must bloom in the way that only you can. Without a doubt you possess your own jewel, your own innate talent inside of you. The question is: How can you discover that talent? The only way is to exert yourself to the very limits of your ability. Your true potential will emerge when you give everything you have to your studies or sports or whatever you are engaged in.

The most important thing is that you get into the habit of challenging yourself to the limit in this way. In a sense, the results you obtain are not so important . . . But the efforts put forth by those who make a habit of pushing themselves to the limit will in time bear fruit. They will distinguish themselves from others without fail. They will bring their unique talent to shine. (Excerpted from Discussions on Youth)

--- DAILY GOSHO ---
"Whatever trouble occurs, regard it as no more than a dream, and think only of the Lotus Sutra."

(Letter to the Brothers - The Writings of Nichiren Daishonin, Vol. 1, page 502)
Selection source: "Kyo no Hosshin", Seikyo Shimbun, May 22nd, 2012

---- DAILY ENCOURAGEMENT ----
"As the Daishonin writes in his letter, devilish functions can enter the lives of high-ranking Buddhist priests, parents, or siblings and, through them, attempt to cause practitioners to discard their faith in the Lotus Sutra (cf. WND-1, 81). This is an unchanging formula that holds true today as well.

"Such negative influences deviously seek out people's weaknesses and pretend to be acting out of concern as they try to obstruct the attainment of Buddhahood. We must never allow ourselves to be swayed by the whisperings of such destructive negative influences and lose our faith. Once we move away from the realm of kosen-rufu, we also veer off the fundamental path to attaining eternal happiness. We end up depriving ourselves of benefit, growth, and victory. This is just how frightening "evil companions"[1] can be."

SGI Newsletter No. 9244, Learning from the Writings of Nichiren Daishonin: The Teachings for Victory, [66] "Encouragement to a Sick Person," Strong Faith That Is Impervious to Negative Influences, from the September 2014 issue of the Daibyaku-renge, translation released 19th May, 2015

[1] Evil companion: Also, evil friend or evil teacher. One who causes others to fall into the evil paths by misleading them in connection with Buddhism. An evil companion deludes others with false teachings in order to obstruct their correct Buddhist practice.
